Religion against Spirituality
Religion is a system of blind faith and assumptions. Spirituality is the inner search for truth.
Religion means accepting things as given that one does not actually know. A spiritual person, on the other hand, possesses the sincerity to say, "I do not know." Only from this state of not knowing does the genuine desire to experience the truth arise.
Religions exist because people do not experience the Creator, or the Divine, within themselves. When this living experience is lacking, people take refuge in the comfort of belief systems and the notion of a God in heaven.
Atheism is also a form of religion or belief. The believer holds a positive belief (that God exists), while the atheist holds a negative belief (that God does not exist). Both groups mistakenly claim to know something they have not verified through their own experience.
Religion must remain a private matter. It is a purely personal affair within the heart of the individual. The centuries-old ambition of religions to conquer the world or impose their dogmas on others inevitably leads to global catastrophes in today’s interconnected world.
Strong definitions based on race, ideology, or religion create rigid identities.
These are often the cause of division and human suffering. People should view one another simply as human beings, rather than as Muslims, Christians, Hindus, and so on.
I see human beings as human beings, as brothers and sisters.
