Advice against channeling through a medium
I view the phenomenon of channeling through a medium—as well as mediumistic or occult practices—with great skepticism and issue clear warnings regarding them.
I rarely comment explicitly on Western-style "New Age channeling."
From a yogic perspective, the human system is inherently porous. People who open their mental and energetic boundaries in an uncontrolled manner—whether through trauma, extreme emotions like grief, or intentional trance rituals—render themselves vulnerable.
Anyone who makes themselves available as a "channel" (medium) for disembodied intelligences or energies loses their own energetic integrity.
I warn that such practices can destabilize the psychological apparatus and lead to hallucinations or genuine psychological disorders.
When mediums claim to receive messages from the deceased or from spirit entities, this is usually explained by energetic residues.
When a person dies, life energy does not immediately dissipate completely; karmic and pranic residues—or "reverberations"—remain.
Individuals with a certain psychic sensitivity can pick up on these vibrations. However, I strongly advise against interacting with the dead or with these residual energies. It drains one's own life energy and keeps the living person trapped in unhealthy entanglements.
I draw a sharp distinction between occultism (which I define to include the conscious manipulation and invocation of energies) and spirituality.
Metaphorically, I describe occultism as the "younger brother of mysticism gone wild." It utilizes existing forces of existence to produce specific phenomena or effects, yet it often leads to dead ends or entails dangers. Spirituality, on the other hand, aims exclusively at one’s own liberation (Mukti) and the dissolution of the ego. According to him, acquiring psychic or mediumistic abilities (such as telepathy or channeling) merely distracts from true spiritual growth and inflates the ego.
True mastery lies not in the external forces or entities one can “invite” within, but in absolute inner stability.
