The New Age concept "letting go" of things or people doesn't work
Simply "letting go" of things or people doesn't work, because that isn't how the human brain functions.
The concept of "letting go" is an illusion. The mind cannot consciously "let go" or forget. The more you try to push away a negative person or memory, the more present it becomes. The brain knows no subtraction—only addition.
Instead of wasting energy trying to "let go" of someone, you should accept what has happened and focus your attention on your own actions in the here and now.
If you are confronted with someone who constantly spreads negative energy or treats you poorly, the following approach is recommended:
If it is someone close to you (family, partner), try to exert a positive influence first.
If transformation is not possible and the relationship is destroying you from within, you should create distance or leave the situation.
As soon as a situation becomes physically or severely emotionally abusive, there is no room for discussion: you must leave immediately.
The "Insect Method" (stripping words of their meaning): If you are forced to be around an unpleasant person for social or professional reasons (e.g., at work), I advise maintaining emotional distance.
View the person's words like the buzzing of an insect in a tree.
Listen to the sounds of their speech, but do not attach meaning to the words. People who act toxically often speak without thinking—so don't take it personally.
Do not react to their provocations. Only if the "insect" attacks you (becomes abusive) should you take targeted action.
The greatest danger posed by toxic people is not their behavior but rather allowing them to poison your inner peace. If someone is nasty to you and you react with anger or pain, you are generating poison within your own system. "Whatever happens around you, do not let it determine who you are deep down. Your joy should depend on your own nature, not on the behavior of others."
