Difference between EGO and SOUL
The ego is not a separate entity, but a survival mechanism created by the mind, whereas the soul (the fundamental life energy) exists untouched and beyond confusion. It makes no sense to conflate the two concepts using imprecise spiritual terms or to view the ego as a scapegoat named "Mr. Ego."
The ego is a tool for survival, not an enemy. The ego (ahamkara) is born the moment a child in the womb first identifies with its physical body. It is an illusory reality and a protective mechanism for surviving in a vast world. The ego is like a shadow; a shadow is neither good nor bad, it adapts to the external situation. The problem is not the ego itself, but rather becoming rigidly identified with it.
There is no need to destroy or fight the ego. Attempting to forcibly get rid of it often merely creates a new, spiritual ego.
The soul is infallible; many people confuse the mind with the soul. If someone says, "I am a confused soul," that is incorrect. A soul cannot be confused; confusion exists solely within the mind and the ego's identifications.
Anyone who blames unpleasant behavior, such as anger or arrogance, on their ego is evading responsibility. Recognize that "when I am pleasant, it is me; when I am unpleasant, that is me too." Once you accept this wholeness, the ego shrinks all on its own. There are two modes of perception: ego-sensitive where one relates everything to oneself and easily feels attacked, hurt, or offended and life-sensitive (soul/life energy) where one perceives one's interconnectedness with existence. Those who are sensitive to life recognize nature, their fellow human beings, and cosmic processes as part of their own system.
One should use the ego as a flexible tool, rather than allowing it to dominate,in order to experience the true, boundless dimension of life (the soul).
