I caution against actively healing others through occult or energetic practices; it constitutes a problematic form of "interference in [another's] life." A warning regarding energy healing: I take a critical view of unqualified attempts to heal others (such as certain forms of laying on of hands or energy transmission). Why? Because this often involves transferring one’s own energy to the other person, or allows negative energies or karma to flow uncontrollably. The distinction between healing and therapy/assistance: Genuine inner transformation and working on one’s own energy (*sadhana*) are very different from attempting to artificially manipulate another person's destiny or life processes. Instead of trying to "fix" people, one should provide them with the tools to become self-reliant. Personal responsibility for health: Many chronic ailments are—in a sense, "self-inflicted"—deeply rooted in the energy body (*pranamayakosha*). To achieve health, one must personally bring one's inner chemistry and energy body into balance through yoga and awareness, rather than relying on external "miracle cures."
